The power of a new perspective is always better than an old idea.

God hasn't told me I was talking to a leader who had called me for some advice and help a few months ago. After assessing the situation I made some suggestions on how he could turn the situation around and make some really important and pertinent changes in his church. I believed that those changes were vital not only to his survival but his relevance as a church. In the course of the conversation he said to me "I can't do that because God hasn't told me to do that" I find it very difficult to then continue the conversation when I hear statements such as this. Who am I to argue with the Almighty. It got me thinking about when God speaks to us and how God speaks to us as leaders. I sometimes- in my more bored moments, watch God TV. I see the TV evangelists selling their wears and telling us they had this great conversation with God. Everyone has an agenda.

Ever since my days in the business world I have always been one of those people who has questioned the motives of others, when I am being asked to pay for something I don't want, but according to the seller will change my life forever. Or I am presented with a proposition or proposal that   will revolutionise everything I ever thought on the subject. I am by nature sceptical of instant success or monetary gain. I believe these last two things are to be gained only by hard work and initiative. Everyone has an agenda. It doesn't matter if you are in journalism, politics, business, the gay rights movement, health and safety or even the church, everyone is pushing his or her agenda. Eat me, buy me, read me, vote for me,   your attitude must change for me, we are right we are the only church that is right!
