Musings on living, leading and feeding the flock.

Christian Leaders my Identity is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ! "My Identity is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ." I heard this statement just the other day and it got me wondering. What does this mean to me as a Christian Leader? Let me give you some context. I was meeting with some leaders and they were discussing the pros and cons of modern preaching. The debate seemed to be about the over use of modern psychological sound bites and argument, and then claiming that these things are Godly opinion and that every Christian should be following. After all if it's taught by a Christian and preached by a Christian and lived by a Christian, then it stands to reason that it is Christian and based on sound Biblical and Christian principles. In my opinion there is far too much psychological claptrap being preached from our pulpits today, the bible says in Proverbs; There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (Prov 14:12 ESV...

Modern day praxis for churches and their leaders.

The Five essentials of any church. Acts 2 : 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. For me there are five essentials needed in the modern church. Firstly I must reiterate here that the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has not changed, but the method by which we do church has. The ancient church, new to the things of God, did four things that we have incorporated into our church practise as a given. In other words we would not be church if we did not do these things. But church is much more than praxis it's about life, relationship with God and people. My modern day essentials are as follows; 1.        Christ: he is our only constant and total devotion. We must be devoted to him twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week—not just on a Sunday Morning. 2.        Commission: going into the whole world is a cooperative and ongoing mission...

Itching Ears and a Christian Leaders Mandate.

Itching Ears and a Christian Leaders Mandate. 2 Timothy 4:3-5 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. Over the last few weeks I have been confronted, again, with some of the most outrageous excesses of the Christian Church. Where really silly things are said and done all in the name of building the body of Christ up. The late Leonard Ravenhill said "I am told that there are people with itching ears. That is all well and good, but God has not given me a mandate to scratch them" I came across one church that has a Prophetic night every Wednesday, where people come and practise their pro...
