Waiting for the dam to burst.

Christian Leaders waiting for breakthrough. For many Christian leaders waiting for God to answer prayer or a petition, is often frustrating. Waiting for God to open a door, or make a way through a particular problem, or even waiting for a promise to be fulfilled, can be stressful to say the least. People say to me that God is teaching me patience; unfortunately I have failed that test on countless occasions. Recently I have been reminded of the story of Joseph in Egypt. Joseph was in prison for something he didn't do. While there he interpreted the dreams of two people, for one it didn't turn out well but the other was released back into the service of Pharaoh. Joseph said to the man "Remember me....and mention me to Pharaoh" but the man didn't remember he forgot Joseph. (Gen 40:14 and 23). But God had not forgotten. Joseph was 17 when God first showed him the dreams that got his brothers all upset. For over thirteen years he worked as a slave and ...

Great Reads for 2017

Reviews for my books. Blueprint for Growth Blueprint for Growth is an amazing insight to church growth from an author who started like the rest of us "with nowt" and used the principles and concepts that work to write his fantastic book "Blueprint for Growth". I commend Tim King and his book without reservation. Read it and grow in all you do. Pastor Stephen Cleveleys Community Church. This is a book I could have done with 20 years ago. Taken as a personal leadership preparation study it could save many next generation leaders form the pain of first-hand mistakes that could be learnt more efficiently and proactively, second-hand. It's incredible value lies in the author's honest ability to highlight not only the valid and vital elements of a growing church but also the pitfalls that will undermine this. Not all such guides are as practical and honest as this. Many expected points are made such as the importance of clear vision and strategy, e...

Musings on living, leading and feeding the flock.

Christian Leaders my Identity is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ! "My Identity is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ." I heard this statement just the other day and it got me wondering. What does this mean to me as a Christian Leader? Let me give you some context. I was meeting with some leaders and they were discussing the pros and cons of modern preaching. The debate seemed to be about the over use of modern psychological sound bites and argument, and then claiming that these things are Godly opinion and that every Christian should be following. After all if it's taught by a Christian and preached by a Christian and lived by a Christian, then it stands to reason that it is Christian and based on sound Biblical and Christian principles. In my opinion there is far too much psychological claptrap being preached from our pulpits today, the bible says in Proverbs; There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (Prov 14:12 ESV...

Modern day praxis for churches and their leaders.

The Five essentials of any church. Acts 2 : 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. For me there are five essentials needed in the modern church. Firstly I must reiterate here that the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has not changed, but the method by which we do church has. The ancient church, new to the things of God, did four things that we have incorporated into our church practise as a given. In other words we would not be church if we did not do these things. But church is much more than praxis it's about life, relationship with God and people. My modern day essentials are as follows; 1.        Christ: he is our only constant and total devotion. We must be devoted to him twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week—not just on a Sunday Morning. 2.        Commission: going into the whole world is a cooperative and ongoing mission...

Itching Ears and a Christian Leaders Mandate.

Itching Ears and a Christian Leaders Mandate. 2 Timothy 4:3-5 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. Over the last few weeks I have been confronted, again, with some of the most outrageous excesses of the Christian Church. Where really silly things are said and done all in the name of building the body of Christ up. The late Leonard Ravenhill said "I am told that there are people with itching ears. That is all well and good, but God has not given me a mandate to scratch them" I came across one church that has a Prophetic night every Wednesday, where people come and practise their pro...

After nearly eight years... almost finished.

As I put the finishing touches to my PhD thesis I reflect on the book that came from it. It doesn't tell the whole story nor give the detail that the thesis does, but on the whole I am really happy with the way this has turned out. Buy a copy from Amazon.com either in print form or e-book form.

Christian Leadership and a Homily on Spiritual Warfare.

Christ is greater. Our church has gone through a period of dryness but we have been faithful and have emerged into a great period of harvest. But, along with that harvest, comes an enemy that does not wish for us to succeed in winning the lost for Christ and the Kingdom of God. Over the last few weeks at our services, at the main campus and our extension services, the leaders have spoken on spiritual warfare and how we can defeat the enemy and be victorious. Here is my take on the subject; No homily on the subject can forget Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. And of course there is   2Cor 10: 3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish stron...
