The last of my musings on leadership
When I look back over what I have written on this subject
over the last three weeks I have to admit that if I wasn't so dense and stubborn I could, no doubt, have
learnt a lot more. People must not get the wrong impression that I know
everything, it is the opposite I know very little. Here is my final
contribution to the things I have learnt as a Christian Leader and have
endeavoured to live by:
The higher up the totem pole a leader goes the harder it
gets. The more complex things become.
To deal with complexity I always hire the best people to do
the job. That way when it goes right I look good.
Lifelong learning is a must, reading is essential. Don't
become a leader that doesn't know what is going on in the world. Learn what a
tweet is.
Embrace change whenever you can, this keeps you on your
toes.
When people say they are being honest with you, they are
more than likely not. A lot of Christian leaders quote Matthew 18 but rarely
live by it.
I have come to the conclusion that I am not a very spiritual
leader, God never seems to be as chatty with me as he is with some of the so
called Christian teachers on Christian Television. I try therefore to keep to
what God told me the last time I heard him and only move when I hear him again.
In the meantime I just try to live like a Christian.
Money is not as important as people but it does help.
It is OK for me to admit that I failed, or that I felt
depressed or that I got despondent. I am after all human even though I have
more responsibilities than a lot of people.
Death has a great success rate. So far it's been 100%. Not
everybody who is ill and I pray for gets healed.
